Top of the Empire State Building

Can't wait to get back to NYC...needs to be sooner than later. Was there three years ago just for one night with the hubby and two oldest kids . What a blast. So much to see and so little time to do it. This was a great vantage point and reminds me of how many wonderful things we have done even though now we have had to scale way back on trips, vacations etc. until the economy and my job prospects improve. Looking back helps me move forward. I am keeping the faith.

Search for self

You could not tell from this photo that this is a bitter cold day in December on Nantucket. The beauty of this island is striking, especially in the off season when it is quiet and the crowds are gone. In 2005 we just loved taking our four year old daughter along with Daddy on a work assignment to the lovely island. He barely has to work and then we get to spook around for a few hours before the ferry takes us back home. This is my fourth trip here, and strangely the very first time I am without my Mother. How odd. The last three times have been mini vacations and only once did I come here with my Daddy. It was in July 1969. He stayed only a few days and flew in the early morning hours away to Cape Cod due to the tragedy his brother is involved with on Chappaquiddick, an even smaller island just miles away. It was on that first ferry ride to this same island at the age of 6 that I became aware of my interest in looking for people who I may be "related" to while out in public. Funny thing was I always had this sense more so when I was on Cape Cod as a child. My godfather had a home on the Vineyard and when we made our visits there each year I would also become more aware each time that this was a special place. Little did I know it was where my Birth Mother had moved with her new small daughter and husband. Fast forward nearly forty years later and we too have bought our first home on this small beautiful peninsula. And I am still searching for pieces of myself.....
